From The Ashes

Wow, just looking at my totals, I am just over 41,000 words on the new novel and I'm just starting to get into the main plot now. Abby and Michael are in New York to meet with a buddy of his from the first book, a federal agent. They've yet to have the meeting and they're pretending to be on vacation. It's the middle of winter but they've already told people they came so they could catch some ice hockey games. I established in the first book that Abby's a big ice hockey fan (as well as a Lakers fan) and the New York Rangers usually play Madison Square Garden.

Anyway, Abby has spotted a potential problem in the chapter I've just written. There are two guys hanging around the hotel. She's decided not to confront them as that could expose the real reason they're in New York.

There are already hints that Phoenix isn't as 'gone' as either Abby or Michael would wish and that's creating a little bit of tension between them.

So anyway, this month I've written 28,000 words on the new book. That's with two days of the month left to go. it's a little below an average of 1,000 words per day but I'm trying to increase that total and take advantage of my free time while I have it.

Carol has done an amazing cover for it already.

The feedback from others has been that they really love it. So do I.

In other news, I've sent applications for other jobs but nothing so far. No temping work has come up either. I'm hoping to have a meeting with someone after the general election next month about my situation to see if I can get help in that arena. She's a candidate for a political party for my area (not a party I support but that's neither here nor there).

We also have a writers festival coming up. I'm running a workshop on punctuation and I'll get a chance to promote my books. I'm also helping out at some of the workshops I'm attending. The lady who is co-ordinating the festival is talking about forming a trust so the festival can be a yearly event and I've already volunteered. I think this will be a good thing for me. If she's thinking of forming a board of trustees I'll put my hand up for that as well.

So that's where I'm at right now.

I know, isn't it awesome? Carol really thinks about how a cover would look in a bookstore and every cover she's done for me really stands out.

The first book turned out to be 127,000 words and the way this one is going, it's looking to be close to the same length.

I'm glad I finally tackled this story as I've been procrastinating on the sequel for a while now. Here's hoping I can finish the first draft by the end of next month.
