I Just Watched Parkland

I managed to watch it via a website and it was an interesting film.

I don't know why, but I've always had a fascination for the Kennedy assassination and this was a different view of events. Of course, the main reason I was interested in watching it was because of Tommy. Well, who wouldn't be.

I guess it's because of Smallville, but I do think Tom is pretty under-rated as an actor. He did a good job as Roy Kellerman, even if the actual man was a lot older than Tom is in the film. He had some pretty good moments in it, I thought.

The whole subject is pretty intense. I felt sorry for Zapruder, whose life was pretty much turned upside down by the few minutes of footage taken of the assassination. I'm guessing it was something that haunted him for the rest of his life. No doubt it did all of those involved.

All in all, it was a pretty good film. It's a shame they didn't release it worldwide, although I'm not sure how much of a reception it would have got here in NZ.

This does sound interesting. Also, it's got Paul Giamatti in it whom I usually enjoy and Marcia Gay Harden, who I haven't seen in a while.

Both are great character actors, from what I've seen and they also play their parts well in the film.

I wanted to see that film! I didn't even know that Tom was in it. It got zero pub around here, and only played in Boston in one theater.

On November 22nd last year the local TV stations covered the 50th anniversary for most of the day, and one showed tapes from WFAA-TV in Dallas. One of the interviews was Abraham Zapruder and you could tell he was affected. Seeing something like that would stay with you the rest of your life, for sure.

Fascinating time capsule, those tapes. The WFAA anchor openly smoked on-camera, and the information was coming in pretty quickly for 1963, though of course some of it was wrong, but not as crazy as it would be today. Reporters actually had to verify sources back then!

Everyone went around kind of numb and in shock.

I can imagine. Kennedy's death happened eight years before I was born but it's one of those moments in history that just tend to stand out. I think there was a similar reaction when Diana was killed.

Yes, Tommy is in it and as I said, he did a pretty good job. I think it was his first serious role since Smallville. I hope you do get to see it.

That day was the first time I ever saw my mother cry. :( Dad was upset, too. JFK was our President in New England, and when you're Catholic, that was yet another way to identify with him. First and only Catholic President so far. Also, Dad was part Irish so that was another clannish feeling. :)
