A friend suggested I have a little 'rant' about this.

Well, I went to work this morning and my colleagues took one look at me and told me I was too sick to be there.

The thing about me is I always feel I have something to prove. Ever since I was little, I have suffered from migraines. They used to get so bad my father would tell me to go to the school office and have them call him so he would come and pick me up. The other kids would often accuse me of wagging school - making up the illness just to get out of school. I think it's called skipping school in the US.

Anyway, I worked at this one place and I was out for two days with a really bad migraine. (In recent years I've had them over two days instead of just one). My boss basically called me a wuss because as far as she was concerned it was 'just a headache'. She clearly had no idea just how debilitating migraines can be for some, and it is not 'just a headache'.

So ever since then, even when I am barely able to string two words together, let alone a sentence, I have gone to work to prove that I am not making it up and they've taken one look at my white face and told me to leave.

I kind of knew I shouldn't have gone to work today. My throat still hurts like a mother ... and the eye infection is only just starting to clear up, plus I'm coughing up thick green phlegm (sorry for the tmi) which is pretty clear to me I've got a respiratory infection as well. Yay me (she says, sighing). I tell you, when I get sick, I get sick.

They've tightened up on sick leave regulations in the past couple of years where you now have to prove you're sick, like with a medical certificate. Which is fine and dandy except what is a doctor going to do for a virus? Anti-biotics are no help. Besides, I would have to travel on the train for 45 minutes to the clinic and since I feel like I'm walking around like a little old lady with a bad hip or something, I don't think I can manage the journey.

It's hard when you're on your own and no-one to take care of you, or take you to the doctor when you know you should go. While I like having my own place, that's the big disadvantage of being alone. Now if I only had a Clark or Lex to take care of me and soothe my fevered brow. (Dreams are free)

Anyway, smack me in the head and call me an idiot. Or a stubborn ass. Whatever.

If you can't put two words together, you most definitely are sick! It's sad that you have to prove you are sick (with a doctors note) when in fact, when you really are, you don't feel like proving anything. Guess we have to thank all the "waggers" for that.

Feel better soon.

There's always some dishonest person making it bad for the rest of us.

I do that too, drag myself in when I'm sick because I worry what people will think.

Now that they have seen that you're sick, you should take tomorrow off and really rest. That's all you can do for a virus.

Yeah, these things have to be allowed to run their course.

I think if you're coughing up green stuff, your virus has become an infection and you will need antibiotics to get rid of it. This always happens to me; I can never just have a tiny head cold, everything always ends up in my lungs.

Where I work, you need a doctor's release to come back to work if you've been off for more than five days due to an illness or injury.

Migraines seem to run in my family. They are horrible. So I completely feel your pain! And they're as much fun to explain or prove to an employer as cramps! (Lordy, I do not miss those!!!)

Sending more GET WELL QUICK wishes and some extra HUGS!
Rest, rest, rest and drink lots of fluids!!!

You're right, you're right, I know you're right. I just went up to the after hours medical clinic - spent way too much money but I have a prescription for antibiotics which I'll have to go get in a little while.
