David Bowie

I guess you could say we had a 'stop the presses' moment, even though that doesn't really happen, but there was a bit of a scramble on the side of the local paper, from what I overheard at work tonight with the news that David Bowie passed away.

Either love him or hate him. He was part of that group of music legends of the sixties and seventies who were heavy into the drug culture and I suppose he did get into some shit, but that was part of it, I think.

Yes, his early stuff was weird, but I liked his later works. Like Changes, Let's Dance, and even some of the soundtrack from Labyrinth. I think that's where I saw a different side to Bowie. Playful, obnoxious maybe, but serious too.

I wouldn't say I was a huge fan. I certainly wouldn't have gone to one of his concerts, even as a teenager. My parents didn't like him. But he was a talented artist and I'm sad that he's gone.

My favourite Bowie songs:

Life on Mars
Changes
Let's Dance
Young Americans
Golden Years
Ashes to Ashes
Absolute Beginners
Within You (Labyrinth)
Underground (Labyrinth)
As the World Falls Down (Labyrinth)
Under Pressure (with Queen)

There are probably others but I can't think of them right now. What were your favourites?
