30 Days of Fanfic Meme - Day Thirteen

13 – Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

I've written both, so I can't really say I have a preference. I just go with what inspires me at the time.

In relation to the source material, I have had some WTF moments with Smallville canon, so I've explored it through the fanfics and extrapolated my personal thoughts on what happened and why. I mean, I can't read the writers' minds, and in many ways, some of the things they wrote I certainly would have made different choices, but that's exactly why we have fanfic, so we can explore how we would do it differently.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's changed the way I see the source material because I still feel the same way I did when watching particular episodes of Smallville. I didn't like where they went then and I still don't like it now.
